Art Mitchell Memorial Fund

Supporting MarineLab Programs by providing scholarships for teachers & students from Title I schools, science equipment, and technology

MarineLab owes much to its original Education Director Art Mitchell. In 1986, he designed the programs that are presented to this day, and set the bar for the quality of his teaching and his devotion to the ocean. Art knew how the ocean could be used to teach, inspire, and change the lives of students of all ages. He passed that knowledge on to scores of MarineLab instructors, who passed it on to thousands and thousands of students.

Art passed away in October 2017 from complications from Parkinson's Disease. To honor his memory, we created the Art Mitchell Memorial Fund. This fund is used to

  • provide financial assistance for students from Florida Title I schools to attend a MarineLab program with their classmates.

  • provide free eMarineLab classes to Florida Title I schools

  • provide scholarships for teachers from Title I schools around the country to attend our summer teacher workshops.

  • support general MarineLab programming with equipment & technology

Your gift will open the eyes of Florida students

many of whom have never even been in the ocean, despite living in the state with the second longest coastline in the USA!

If you are interested in receiving funding through this program, request information when booking an onsite program, or indicate in our eMarineLab booking form that you are a Title I school
