We love our community!

MarineLab loves ALL students of ALL ages, but we’re especially happy to see our fellow residents of the Keys! From Family Days to grant funded programs for local schools to our Leadership Monroe County classes, we’re a part of Key Largo and we want you to feel like part of MarineLab!

  • Science Fair Judges

We LOVE judging science fairs! Every year we send a few staff to our Upper Keys schools’ fairs, and this year 9 instructors were judges at the Monroe County Science Fair!

  • Family Days

Every three months or so, we host Family Days right here at MarineLab! Sometimes it’s a lagoon or a beach snorkel, we almost always have a discovery activity, and sometimes it’s a boat trip! Learn more

  • Coral Reef Classroom

Thanks to a grant from the Ocean Reef Conservation Association, we teach 7th graders from Upper Keys schools about water quality and coral reef ecology, and take them snorkeling. For some kids it’s their first time to the reef that’s only a few miles from their home.

  • Leadership Monroe County

Since 2008, MarineLab has hosted the Leadership Monroe County classes on their first day of their environmental weekend. These business leaders, public servants, and elected officials from throughout the Keys get an overview of the ecology of our unique island chain, and go for a boat ride to experience the importance of our mangroves first hand!

    Florida Bay for Fifth Graders

Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, we teach Upper Keys fifth graders about Florida Bay’s ecology, and take them for a snorkel in the mangroves to look at all the cool critters!

  • Clean Ups

MarineLab staff often participate in community clean ups and assist other non profits in their events.

  • Summer Camp

Our Summer Day Camps are super popular with both local and visiting kids from ages 8 - 13. It’s a week of fun in the sun, snorkeling, and learning about what lives in the sea. We also host the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter camp for a couple of days, and the Take Stock In Children summer program too!

  • Four adults sitting around a bucket with marine invertebrates in it

    Teacher Workshops

Every summer MarineLab hosts a week long teacher workshop that’s heavy on the field programs and light on the lectures! Monroe County teachers can participate for only $100, which includes meals and accommodations!

  • Monroe Match

Local teachers do not need to be part of a grant program to bring their students to MarineLab! Thanks to our donors and especially to Delta Force, LMC Class XXIX’s Saltwater Superheroes drive, we have funds available for Monroe County schools to attend our programs. Email us as coordinator@marinelab.org for more info.

    Haunted Lagoon

Every fall our staff gets their spooky on and we host the Haunted Lagoon, where people can snorkel and get scared at the same time.
